Coping with online college requires a lot of adjustment when one is used to the traditional college and everything that goes with it. Online classes are not for those who require physical companionship, or to say a social life with others of the same how shall we say “class”.
The only companionship you have are people at some remote location in the world talking to you that you never see just imagine. This makes it easier to imagine for one to imagine one is young again, when the fact is being over forty is not young.
Being athletic does not help either since there are no teams online to try out for other than debate teams, or other people who like to play video games and other such things. People have to actually know what is going on around them and keep up with their own personal environment.
This means that if a person is not a self-starter he or she may have problems with adjustment in an online environment. Being anti-social though does not give one a reason to do online classes as interaction with classmates is a must to keep grades high.
People who choose online courses have to have or be able to develop a self-starter attitude, along with flexibility. One must be a self-starter because no one is around to push and give any motivation for learning other than the instructor, guidance counselor, financial counselor, mom, dad, or spouse.
Learning in this environment does require an extra push from oneself. Since there are so many time zones corresponding with classmates is not always immediate especially if one lives on the Atlantic Coast and is corresponding to someone on the West Coast.
This is why a person must be flexible and not be in a hurry to speak to people who do not even get off work and settle down for the evening until one is ready for bed from one coast to another.
Little things like these and having reliable internet as well as a backup computer are necessary for online communication. Drawbacks aside, online classes eliminate commute time and are convenient for anyone with a hectic schedule. All in all online classes are for people with serious minds, slightly anti-social, people who like to talk about athletics but not play, and people who like the convenience and saving on gas.
